Jake started wrestling at just four years old before moving into karate and eventually discovering Judo. But witnessing Royce Gracie compete at UFC 2 changed everything.

That experience sent Jake deeper into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, folkstyle wrestling, MMA and submission grappling before his journey eventually led him to the old-school world of Catch-as-Catch-Can Wrestling.

Jake also shares stories about learning from some of the greatest names in grappling history, including Karl Gotch, Billy Robinson, Gene LeBell, Dick Cardinal and Wade Schalles.

WHAT IS SCIENTIFIC WRESTLING?

Jake Shannon founded Scientific Wrestling to preserve, develop and promote the techniques, training methods and philosophy of Catch Wrestling.

Rather than allowing Catch Wrestling to become simply a historical martial art, Jake wanted to create opportunities for people to actually learn Catch Wrestling, train Catch Wrestling and compete in Catch Wrestling.

That mission eventually resulted in seminars, instructional material, competitions and the creation of King of Catch Wrestling, which later evolved into Shoot Pro Wrestling.
