With over 30 years of experience and black belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Traditional Jiu Jitsu, and Karate, Carl’s journey spans continents, combat styles, and real-world applications. He’s also a Level 1 Catch Wrester with the legendary Wigan Snake Pit, and has trained extensively in Boxing, Wrestling, Sambo, Muay Thai, and Judo.
Carl’s BJJ competition journey began in Los Angeles in 1999, and since then he’s tested his skills in grappling events across the UK, Europe, Scandinavia, Thailand, Jordan, and Abu Dhabi.
Outside the gym, Carl brings 25 years of hands-on experience in the security industry, working as a Door Supervisor at everything from Premier League football matches to backstage concert security and high-profile public events in London and beyond.
He’s also deeply committed to self-defence education, delivering bespoke classes for women’s shelters, vulnerable teenagers, and at-risk adults—sharing the kind of realistic, pressure-tested knowledge that only comes from working the front lines.
With a 2:1 Honours Degree in Sport Science and Coaching, Carl blends scientific insight with street-smart practicality—making him a highly sought-after seminar coach known for his no-nonsense, effective approach to martial arts and self-defence.
